Dancing Ewe Farm operates an intensive grazing program with only rich pastures and a well thought out infrastructure. The farm is managed by five key players, Joanne Krause (Jody's mother), Jody Somers, Luisa Scivola-Somers, Carol Conklin and Maureen Brown.
Joanne oversees the winter feeding program, manages the lamb nursery, and always is there for miscellaneous shepherding duties, and above all support. Jody is responsible for the general flock health, pasture management, and the cheese making. Luisa manages the aging facility, aligns cheese orders, and assists with lambing and neonatal care. She also handles all of the bookkeeping, marketing, website maintenance and orchestrates Dancing Ewe Farm cheese and olive oil tastings. Maureen and Carol are also vital assets to Dancing Ewe Farm. They oversee the farm when Jody and Luisa are in New York City working the market tent. They're also in charge of milking, arguably the most important and rigorous job on the farm. Carol and Joanne handle the farm’s winter management program.
We have two British farm hands, or should we say paws: Twist and William. Twist has an accomplished resume, which includes the working sheepdog role in the HBO movie, “A Dog Year”, finishing in several top ten sheepdog competitions, to performing working sheepdog demonstrations in downtown Manhattan. William, on the other hand, is always ready to work! William never obtained the vast experience of Twist but is extremely courageous and never backs down against grumpy rams or feisty ewes. Our security department is handled by two Maremma sheepdogs, Faith and Sartucci.
All together, we operate Dancing Ewe Farm to provide products of the highest quality. We all pay special attention to detail striving for perfection in all of our products.
